Project: Deanstones

- Private Garden Design & Build.

With retirement on the horizon and a desire for a private garden to sunbathe in, our client decided to revamp her outdoor space. Recent tree work had uncovered a boundary wall in poor condition due to root damage, and it was decided that a full renovation was necessary to modernise the area, creating a more functional and private space. The original garden had a feeling of being exposed and lacked a suitable area for entertaining and sunbathing in privacy, as well as a poorly paved area to the front of the house. Land Masons set out to solve these issues.

To create privacy, the original boundary wall was completely rebuilt with stone and a custom-made, contemporary slatted fence was added, sitting nicely above the new wall.

Next, the levels were improved to maximise the area for entertaining and improve flow of movement around the house before being paved in contemporary sawn sandstone. An area of planting was incorporated into this to provide attractive natural screening from the road but still allow an overview of the garden.

So our customer would have a permanent place to relax, we devised a cantilevered floating bench that would nestle amongst greenery and planted raised beds which were built and rendered.

With these improvements, our client was now able to enjoy a private, modern and functional garden, perfect for entertaining and relaxing.

The Art of Garden Design

Below, you'll find three examples of the garden design illustrations that served as the foundation for the project.

The design was largely followed, with only a few deviations in materials made once the client was able to see the renovation underway. These illustrations give a glimpse into the creative process and demonstrate the fluid collaboration between the client and the garden designer.
