Project: Poppy Cottage
- Old Patio Becomes Welcoming Driveway
Land Masons were approached by a client with a charming old farmhouse, seeking to increase their off-road parking and enhance the kerb appeal of their property. Mindful of the rustic setting, we meticulously selected materials and features that would complement the farmhouse's character.
Our solution involved transforming a worn-out patio into a practical and visually appealing cobbled driveway. The project began by careful dismantling of the existing patio and walling, salvaging any reusable stones.
Next, we excavated the driveway area and laid the foundations for the new retaining walls. Land drains and weep holes were incorporated into the blockwork to ensure proper drainage, surrounded by free-draining stone.
The walls were then faced with reclaimed stone and filled with concrete for added strength. A robust, steel-reinforced concrete base was poured for the driveway, followed by the laying of the attractive cobbles.
To complement the driveway, the access ramp was paved with buff limestone flagstones, and a low wall was built in front of the entrance to provide support for the grand oak porch. Traditional stone walls, complete with rounded copings and a gently curved front, now frame the entire area, creating a cohesive and inviting entrance.
The final result is a transformation that not only maximizes parking space but also significantly enhances the property's kerb appeal, all while respecting its historic charm.
